Highlighters have been used to highlight faces for film and photography since the classical Hollywood cinema era, but in the past couple of years they have become a staple of mainstream make-up bags everywhere. They come in liquid, cream and powder form. Some make-up artists also swear to using natural oils to achieve that covetable glow.
I have tested an insane amount of highlighters throughout the years, about a hundred or so of them, but this one is my ultimate.
INTRODUCING: Pure Color Envy Shimmering Blushlight in ‘Sultry Glow’ from Estée Lauder
Highlighters are supposed to make you glow without making you look like an alien. I guess what I am trying to say is that your skin is still supposed to look like human skin. This is why I love exactly this highlighter. It gives a luminous glow that lights up and highlights your features in a naturally beautiful way. Some highlighters are too weak, which is disappointing, while other give lots of highlight, but you end up looking intergalactic. Some are sticky and hard to apply, while others are difficult to blend. This one is a breeze to apply.
For the best result, I recommend that you get a good highlighter brush. If you want to apply your make-up in the right way, you need to buy the proper tools to do so. The limited edition YSL Contour and Highlight Brush is the best that I’ve tried, but any angled brush will do. With this particular brush you use the white brush for your highlighter, and contour your cheekbones with bronzer using the black, angled brush.
My highlighter is always the very last thing that I apply to my face
First I sweep my brush over the whole palette, concentrating on the two lower shades. I brush the highlighter upwards, from the top of my cheekbone to my temple, and repeat this process until I am satisfied with the amount of glow.
I also brush from between my eyebrows to the tip of my nose. One sweep will do.
After this I put a dot on my chin, making sure to not apply too much.
Using my finger I apply highlighter to the inner creases of my eyes. This opens them up and makes me look more awake.
